Hi Daffnetters,
Another frosty morning with a fine day after we warm up ..
I was very fortunate to recieve from John Hunter two bulbs of Emerald Sea .
They have only been in the pot for about 6 weeks but are growing and flowering strongly ..
John knows of my interest in breeding early daffs , primarily for the early cutflower market ..
He has had A wide range of Em Sea seedlings flowering for many weeks , through the best
and worst of the Nelson winter .It is VERY fertile , both seed and pollen , and passes on the
earliness genes to almost all of it,s progeny .John has doubles , jonquillas and standards and has
identified quite a few sdlgs that are fertile .
Harold Koopowitz has also done some great work with Em Sea and the December 2008 U S A
Daffodil Journal has a very interesting and useful article from him on his exploits .
The first of my doubles are just starting to flower as are the early redcups and several early pinks
from Graham Phillips ..
The pollen will be well spread .
Cheers John
