Atlanta Botanical Gardens

While at the Georgia Daffodil Society Show in March,06, I took this picture of what I believe to be a Garrya in the gardens next to a brick wall.  I asked about the shrub since there was no name around the plant.  Those there on a Saturday did not know the plant.  Of course, I wanted one for my garden but fear it will not survive in Tennessee.  BUT that plant is still alive or was in March,09.
If anyone knows another name for this plant, I would like to know.
Thanks,
Nancy Robinson

    Nancy,
Is not your plant Corylopsis pauciflora or such like – the Winter Hazel? Leaves don’t look right for Garrya. There is lots of information on google on Corylopsis.

    Good evening Hal and Nancy

I think you will find your flowering shrub is a very good form of Stachyurus praecox, common name Early Spiketail, Stachyuraceae family.
