Seedling

Hello All,

As David has pointed out the season that we all wait for is beginning, probably a fraction later than last year.  There are one or two reasonable yellows showing up, all are seedlings reflecting what is available for hybridization at this time of the year. 09:2 is bred from one of my seedlings (Midas Touch x Lordship) crossed with  a very good early yellow trumpet bred by Max Hamilton.  I made five selections from this cross, mostly division 1, but this one is division 2.  The best of the cross is 09:3 – it has a lovely flower on it but as always seems to be the case it is spoiled by several nicks.  Lesley can spot a nick from 100 paces away, so it has been picked and the pollen will  be used on later flowering varieties.

We have a Table Show on Monday evening – will get some photos from there for Daffnet.

Max’s condition is unchanged – pretty much bed-ridden but still very coherent.  To exacerbate the situation Kath’s recent knee operation has not been entirely successful and she is off to the specialist on Tuesday.  We will call in on Tuesday morning with news from the Table Show – will report on Max after that visit.
