Fw: Another Bulb shed companion

Because he doesn’t feel like shaving?

Beats me, perhaps they’re some sore of sensory system, like a cat’s whiskers?

I think those are sensory hairs on his or her legs.  On the other hand, Tilly, the Honduran curly haired tarantula we had for many years in a terrarium, had "urticating bristles" on her opisthosomos (back side).  If disturbed, she would rub them with a hind leg to throw off a few to deter the pursuer.  After a year’s use of that exoskeleton, she could have quite a bare patch there on the back, but after molt would be restored. So hairs can serve more than one purpose.  Do you have a photo from the top or front?  My guess from this angle is male for this spider, as the back portion is similar in size to the front, or smaller, and the pedipalps (much shorter appendages near the mouth) seem to be tipped with the embolus of the male.  I also guess Wolf Spider, mainly because of the size you report, but would only be able to verify that from the eye pattern.
