This morning, “This Old House” website listed the twelve most deadly garden plants and narcissus poeticus was number 5 out of 12:

It is curious that Poets were the only narcissus on this list. I recall Ian Tyler’s presentation during the Historics Panel last year at Murphys, where he said it was believed that Roman soldiers carried narcissus bulbs as a means for suicide! (please correct me Ian)
Some of my other favorite plants are on “the List” including rhododendrons, poinsettias and lily-of-the-valley.
No wonder the deer and wild turkeys bonsai’ed our young orange and lemon trees and left everything else alone!
