This is Wayne , the Chinese Pheasant , photographed on Friday ..
He was bred by Wayne Hughes — noted Kiwi breeder and exhibitor of daffodils, gladioli
and birds . Executive member of our N D S and on the judges committee.
Wayne is in residence at Kevin Sherlocks — also a breeder and exhibitor of daffodils , dahlias
and birds — but not a bird showman as Wayne is ..
Kevin had a pair of Golden Chinese pheasants but for several seasons was only getting infertile eggs ..
After discussing the problem with Wayne , Wayne offered a new young male which was gratefully
accepted .He was delivered to Kevins and appropriately named Wayne ..
Wayne has proved his fertility and his lady friend and youngsters are in the next pen in Kevins aviary .
He does not have the red back colouring some Chinese Pheasants have but in the sun he has a
stunning golden glow ..
It is the start of the summer show season in N Z and Wayne and Kevin , with many other daffodil
exhibitor are busy with their dahlias and gladioli .
