Friends, for all of you waiting to receive your copy(ies) of DTSG 2011, please be advised I will get them to you as soon as I can. The printer in Macon, GA (45 miles north of me), had, unbeknownst to me, subbed out the wire spiral binding to a printer in ATL. Between the holidays, and now the snow/ice storm that still has ATL in its grip, the printing company up there has not worked for the last two days, and I figure it is doubtful again today. I hear stories of ice skating on Peachtree St in downtown ATL. I lived the first 32 years of my life in the metro ATL area, and people just go crazy when a winter weather advisory is issued. I could go on for pages of “ winter storm stories in ATL”. People are just unprepared. And now with the very low night time temps forecast, the next problem will be frozen water pipes that will burst. Homes in the southeast just are not built for temps in the teens, especially older homes that still have copper pipe. I am in the heart of the state in middle GA, and I went three days without internet service, as I have satellite internet. We got some snow, sleet, here, but mostly freezing rain with a lot of ice accumulation on power lines and trees. My son did not have school for the last two days. Communities a little north of us, have no school again for today. Yesterday I traveled north about 30 miles to an appointment, and stopped off at a very large, new Kroger grocery store. They had no meat, no seafood, hardly any produce, some bread, and they did have some milk. Customers were taking pictures on their cell phones, and I guess, sending it to their northern relatives. This Kroger is in a county of 100,000 people, and is one of 4 Krogers in that county. Here in tiny Hawkinsville, there is one grocery store, that seems to be well stocked and not suffering from shortages. I think the difference must be that this south GA owned grocery store company, gets their goods from southern (south GA and north FL) suppliers, and their south GA warehouse, and not ATL. The UPS guy delivered here yesterday, and their local distribution center can’t get anything from ATL, so they can deliver here in middle GA. The UPS guy said they were sending people home, as there was nothing to deliver. So just know I am doing all I can to get my hands on the new DTSGs, and I will get the orders on the way, as quickly as I can. I can just see all my MN friends, rolling in laughter, that GA has “shut down” over a little snow/ice, and cold weather. I agree… it is hard to get your head around.
