camera

Dear Nancy:

Thank you.  I have used a series of the little pocket sized point and shoot Canon cameras.  The current one I am using is a Power Shot 790 IS.  Doubtless it has been superceded.  They have all been good. I wear them out after about 10,000 photos.

I use Macro mode, and spot metering.  I turn the f-stop down by -2/3 of a stop so that the color does not saturate the sensor.  This is a big problem with daffodils and yellow.

I try not to use the flash, and turn it off.  When obliged to use flash I always zoom out to the longest focal length of the camera, so that the flash is not too close to the bloom, yet the bloom fills the frame.

It is almost always preferable to take daffodil photos with telephoto rather than to get right up to the bloom with your lens on wide angle.  The latter makes the corona look dumpy and out of proportion.  Taking a photo from about the distance that you would normally stand to look at the bloom gives the most pleasing results.

I hope this is of some use.  It is not sophisticated, but it is simple and works.

Warm regards,

Melissa

Hi Melissa,
I like your pictures and wonder what camera you use. I need one that takes pictures of small flowers. You are earlier than I am by far but we have had warm days and are ahead of usual.
