keeping blooms

I’ve got a couple of mini’s that I want to show next weekend.  They’re in pots, currently in a sunny raised bed, and I think will be well past prime by next week.  Is there any advantage to putting the entire pot in the fridge (or maybe dark chilly crawl space) versus picking and putting the flower in the fridge?  At a minimum I’m going to pull them out of their warm south-facing bed and stick them in some cool shade to delay picking as long as possible, but I wondered if putting pots and all in the fridge would be better.
My one remaining bud of Habit is opening today, but something ate all the others night before last.  I hope it got a stomach ache!!  Why couldn’t it have stayed in the nice inviting area at the edge of the woods and dined on Ice Follies?

  1. Hi Kathleen,
I have kept flowers for many days by putting the whole pot in the fridge. Give it a good water first. Far better than picking. Mind you some cultivars will keep regardless of how you treat them, others have a vase life of a day if you are lucky.
