  1. Mark,

You might want to explain what the photos are, and why you thought people would want to see daff pollen.

  2. I have always been interested in genetics and understanding plants. I like to cross pollenate and grow my own seeds. I have done this with several other plants and wanted to really see what does pollen look like and does it look different than other pollen and yes it does look different. I shared these photos with others.

Linda W told me she thought there would be others in daffnet that would like to see them, so I decided to post them.

So these photos are looking under a microscope of daff pollen I took last year. I have enlarged the pollen in photos before but the file was too large to post on daffnet.

So often in my mind, I wonder about genetics just how many different crosses could there be. How does this all work. Well after looking under the scope to see just a very little speck of pollen and to see all those little grains; it puts things in to perspective for me. Something I have had no idea about but now have a better understanding of just how much pollen there is, how small it looks, and to think there are six antlers on a bloom and this is only one small speck from one antler.

Just think that each grain of pollen holds a different generic code so the cross you make would not be the same as the cross you make the second time.

It just all boggles my mind to think of this but also is the thrill to work with plants.

I will try to post this photo below that is larger so you can see close up what the naked eye can’t see.
