George H. Bragdon

Dear Daffodil Friends around the world…

George H. Bragdon, the co-founder of the Virginia Daffodil Society, is in extremely grave health and, as a result, Patty Bragdon called me this morning to let me know that George is now in hospice at their retirement home and has been given the Last Rights of the Roman Catholic Church.  I know that many of you have kept in touch with George and Patty over the years and I am confident that a note or card to Patty at this time would be very much appreciated, along with a request that you join Betty and me in keeping them in our prayers.  I will keep you posted regarding George’s condition.

  1. This news leaves a hole in my heart; considered George a “special ADS friend”. Patty is so special as well.

  2. Dear Friends,

We have lost a true friend and a daffodil friend with George.  When I first went to Richmond he greeted with me a smile and gave me the key to the Virginia Daffodil Society even when I was new and just getting started in daffodils.  He welcomed all visitors and greeted everyone with enthusiasm.  Those first VDS shows were a challenge, as compared to today at the fantistic facilities at the Lewis Ginter Gardens.

At Fran and I made our first visit, I can never forget that he told me that when he and Patty first came to Richmond that they stopped to visit Marie Bozievich in Bethesda, MD.  George said, “Marie said that Richmond needs it’s own daffodil society, tell her that it has one now.”  He didn’t add that the daffodil society in Richmond was courtesy of he and Patty, for without them there would have been no thriving society as it is today.

    Best regards,

    Clay
