  1. I confess. Actually a pair of tweezers is most useful at this point.

Wonderful, Brian!  Thank you so much for documenting and sharing this.  So do you have any idea how long a seed pod needs to ripen on a living stem vs. a stem in water vs. being cut with a few inches of stem as Elise mentioned in her earlier post to the hybridizers robin?  I have seen seeds spill out in the garden and have considered it hopeless to try to retrieve them.  Perhaps it seems a bit more manageable in the potting shed.

    no I have not measured the time to ripen under various treatments. I think pods of different cultivars and species take dufferent times – and of course weather  has a big bearing – when sunny and warm it is amazing how rapidly they ripen. The spilled seds i collect are usually from outside in the garden.
