unusual seedling

Hello all,

I have had a very unusual seedling flower for the past three years. This September the bulb produced three flower stems, what makes it unusual is that it appears to be a 2W-W with a with a half length trumpet shape corona, half way down the inside of the corona a band of clear pastel pink to the base of the crown exists. The outside of the corona shows no evidence of any colour what so ever. Why this pink colour pigmentation does not go right through the crown from one side to the other I do not quite understand. This is a flower that virtually defies the present colour coding and is the only one of this type that I have seen. I would be interested to hear if anyone has raised or seen a daffodil like this. This seedling No.48/02A was bred from Cosmic Glow x 55/93A (Pol Voulin x [Pure Joy x {Greenland x {Glendermott x Kotuku}]). 55/93A is a sister seedling to Pacific Dream (55/93B).

The bulbs of this unusual flower are due to lifted this season and will be planted out in a new bed, hopefully these will be in bloom in time for our overseas visitors to see next September when they are here for the World Convention.

Cheers,
John

  1. Very interesting John. I have several varieties which have pink tinges on
the inside of the cup when they first open (eg Ice Breaker). This pink
fades out gradually and is completely gone when the flower is fully mature.
I guess that even if the pink remains at full maturity it should be
registered as 2WW as white is the predominant colour.
