In reading it, the word ‘Akkad’ popped out at me.
It’s a variety I still grow and it is always lovely.
Many of you are interested in the origin of cultivar names so I thought you might find the article interesting.
I sent the link to David and Robin Jackson and this was part of David’s reply:

It is one of my father’s !y-y that proved to be a very good breeder…..
Father probably got the name from my grandfather who was fascinated with history, and even had quotes in ancient Grecian scattered in his seedling books.
