Seasons Greetings from Middle Georgia – USA

Daffodil Friends, I trust wherever you live, and whatever traditions you
celebrate, or religious observances that you may participate in. that you
are finding fulfillment and happiness. Happy everything! Here at my home,
we celebrate Christmas on Christmas morning. We have opened gifts, and had
a hearty Southern breakfast of country ham, red-eye gravy, biscuits, and
grits. The dog got his bag of presents first. He is a 7 yr old yellow Lab,
and he was most appreciative of his new toys and treats. The dog gets very
excited when someone puts on camouflage clothing, as he thinks it is time
for him to go and do his duty. retrieve. My husband and son are hunters,
and the dog was depressed that no hunting adventures resulted from the
trying on of all the new camo clothing. My 15 year old son is not spoiled,
but my dog is. At least my son now sleeps to a reasonable hour on Christmas
morning. When he was younger, we did the bleary eyed 5 AM, “Santa has come.
wake up” routine, from a breathless and very excited kid, jumping into the
middle of the bed. Of course this came after, we, the dutiful parents, had
stayed up to the wee hours, quietly assembling toys, inserting batteries,
sitting it all out, etc. Yes, we are glad to have moved past that stage.

It is raining as I prepare this email, and we need rain badly here in
middle Georgia. We just had 4000 Longleaf Pine (Pinus pallustris) seedlings
planted in our front field on DEC 23rd, and this soft downpour is perfect
for them. We have also been doing some additional landscaping here at our
residence, including planting trees and shrubbery. Rain is in the weather
forecast for the next several days, so that is perhaps the best Christmas
present the Agers will receive.

So now that I have all these empty boxes and tissue paper, and I am anxious
to recycle them, don’t you want to order something from the ADS store? For
instance, I just picked up 15 copies of the latest DataBank on DEC 21. You
may recall that we had to go to a pre-order arrangement for the DataBank.
But most never pay any attention to that policy so I just have to guess how
many I will sell. Three of the fifteen copies were pre-ordered and shipped
out yesterday. Thank you Kirby Fong, Barbara Knell, and Univ of MN Library
for pre-ordering. I expect the last 12 to go fast, so I suggest you get
yours ordered right away. You can order on the webstore, or send a check.
They are $45 which includes shipping in the USA. We sell fewer and fewer
DataBanks each year, and we believe that may be due to DaffSeek supplanting
it. So if you didn’t receive the holiday presents you were expecting, or
Santa skipped your house by mistake, I recommend you treat yourself with
some of the following:

Order Brent and Becky Heath’s book, Daffodils for North American Gardens.
They are signed by Brent and Becky. I also have the VanBeck book, Daffodils
in Florida – A Field Guide to the Coastal South. And if you didn’t order a
2011 version of Daffodils to Show and Grow (DTSG), you really need one for
the coming show season (the latest DTSG has a gold cover). What about show
entry cards? A Judges Handbook? How about some of our educational or
archival CD and DVD programs for reference and presentations? Check out the
last two pages in your Daffodil Journal to see all that is available. Help
me recycle all these boxes and packing materials and send me your orders.
And make sure your dues are current by checking the outside cover of your
DEC Journal, please.

And those of you on Daffnet that are not ADS members, please consider this
your cordial invitation to join today! Check out our webstore (see address
below) and you will find that joining ADS is quick and easy. Our award
winning Daffodil Journal, a quarterly publication sent to ADS members, is
primo! We would love to have you as an ADS member.

May you know the beauty of this season, the quiet wisdom of nature, and that
the coming new year will bring “blue ribbons” of many descriptions. into
your life.
