Some Helebores

Spring is coming to N. Ireland. I like Helebores and they are starting to bloom – the flowers have perfection of form (even if they don’t have 6 petals!!) and they are such good evergreen ground cover plants.
The Ashwood Nursery seedling yellows bred by John Massey really appeal to me. Not only are to colours magnificent but they are so variable and the flowers tend to have a better pose than many of the shy Helebores. I bought 10 “seedlings (the named varieties are expensive!) of yellow breeding” and I’m pleased that 8 have yellow flowers.
At the NIDG Winter Show in Feb as well as daffodils we have classes for crocus, snowdrops, Iris and other bulbs and also we have very popular classes for Helebore blooms floated in saucers. The variety is amazing.
