  1. Hello Mari,

I thought it might be ‘Armada’ bred by Guy Wilson which I think was  grown in Holland for quite a while – but it it is difficult to be sure  from pictures, and flowers can vary a bit from year to year.

  2. Hello Duncan,

Yes, it looks a lot like Armada, except from Armadas height, which is said to be more than 60 cm. My plant is 40 cm this year. It has grown in the same spot for 4 years without replanting. I have noticed all name suggestions.

    Thanks, Mari

  3. Hello Mari

This could be Ceylon 2Y-O it does grow sometimes a bit bigger than 85mm and  as the flower matures the colour is paler at the base of the cup 2Y-YOO,  the other possibility is Killigrew 2Y-O pre 1907 lots of awards in 1930  and 1936 and is paler at the base of the cup. I grow these but do not have a picture of Killigrew,  Have a look at my picture of Ceylon and Carbineer just to compare.

    Keep smiling

  4. Thank you, Ron!

The pictures of Ceylon in daffseek vary. The ones from Carlos van der Veek, 2005 and 2008, look pretty similar to my plant. In the others the corona is too long and the mouth too straight. The corona in my plant is something between a cup and a bowl, not a funnel, and the mouth is flared, not straight. This is a tricky one, I think, but I never give up. Suddenly the solution appears, that’s my experience!

Broad smile from Mari, because I’m going to France on a garden tour with garden friends tomorrow, to see the french garden of Lawrence Johnston, among others!
