Turface

Hi All:
A few years back, Turface was mentioned as a good soil lightener.  I tried it and liked it but it was a bit pricey at the time.  The following note was posted this morning on another list and wondered if anyone had tried this.
” I use Turface and other brands of calcinated clay, in my Bonsai soil
mixes. Often I buy OilSorb from Tractor Supply and sift out and discard
the fines, as it is the least expensive way to get calcinated clay .

  1. Linda and anyone interested..in the recent issue of American Garden, in the “Green Garage” feature on expanded aggragates, which includes Turface and several others. I didn’t know about pricey but knew they were hard to find.

Delia scoffed because we had to buy granite grit in Hendersonville before we left for home. But every item is different–our judges from Dallas bought several bales of pinestraw before heading home—said they couldn’t get small bales in Plano, etc.
