Secrets of Grooming and Staging Daffodils Revealed!

Like a tabloid headline, the subject line exaggerates the story, but at least it got your attention! The ADS has a new media program named “Show Your Daffodils!” that covers picking, grooming, storing, transporting, and staging daffodils. After our Executive Director has a chance to add it to the ADS web store, you’ll be able to buy a wide screen, standard definition DVD whose duration is 53 minutes 13 seconds. The movie collects many of the techniques gleaned from experienced exhibitors and has a script that has been carefully reviewed by members of the ADS Media Programs Committee. As a no-budget production, we have had to settle for producer, screen writer, narrator, editor, photographers, and videographer who would work for nothing; nevertheless, the comprehensiveness should make the resulting presentation of interest to experienced exhibitors as well as to new exhibitors.

Over the years we’ve had inquiries from would be exhibitors for hints or information on entering their flowers in a show, and this presentation finally fulfills that need. It’s had to wait until we could include video as well as still photos in a presentation. Although this presentation has 126 “slides,” it also has six and a half minutes of video showing the grooming of daffodils.

If you can’t wait for the DVD to become available for sale or if you want to know more about it before deciding whether to buy it, we will put a low resolution Flash movie of the presentation on the ADS web server, but until it can be installed there, you can view a temporary copy at

We thank Jan Moyers for pointing out Dropbox as a site for sharing large files. Your web browser should have an up-to-date Flash player plug-in to view this movie. If you watch YouTube videos, you should be ready. It is structured similar to a movie where you can view the whole thing or go to an index and jump to a section (scene). Move your cursor to the right of an item, and when the green arrow lights up, click to jump to that section. The entire movie is about 285 MB. This might matter to you if you have to pay for large amounts of data delivered to your computer. You will also need a broadband connection since this amount of data in 53 minutes is over 700,000 bits per second.

Although the presentation is about American daffodil shows, much of it should still be of use to overseas exhibitors. If you’re in a country that uses PAL instead of NTSC as your video standard, be sure your DVD player can handle and display NTSC DVDs before buying the DVD.

  1. Wow, Kirby, another great achievement!  Thank you so much for you and your committee’s hard work to make this video available to the public. Well done! Do you know how long Dropbox keep files available?

    Thanks so much!

  2. This new e-media program is now on the ADS webstore. Kirby has also recently completed Show Winners 2012, and it, too, is on the ADS webstore. The webstore is: http://stores.daffodilusastore.org/presentations-cds-dvds/. All ADS e-media programs are $10 each, which includes shipping to USA domestic addresses. I receive an email notice of your secure webstore transactions immediately, and I fill all your orders. Our webstore is hosted by Homestead, which is an Intuit company, so I feel you can be confident about your transactions. You can also order by sending a check by snail mail for both or either of these e-media programs to the address below. Your check is made payable to ADS. Look over the webstore e-media listings, you may find several you would like to order. Appreciatively,
