Riccarton Horticultural Society Show

Hi Folks,

The first show in Canterbury wthe show was hosted by the Riccarton Horticultural Society on 8th September. Because the show did not clash with the North Island National most of the better Canterbury exhibitors were able to exhibit this year. The quality of flower was good with entries of 5 or 6 flowers in most classes.

Malroze won class one with a lovely entry of 6 cyclamineus hybrids. D & L Adams were second with a vase of three Habit which were picked on August 1st and a vase of three superb Corbiere. Habit is a wonderful cultivar both in form and lasting ability. The clump from which these were picked is still showing colour after over a month.

Best Amateur bloom, best Division 2 and Best in Show was Cameo Flush exhibited for Jeanette Robb who will be back in New Zealand next week.

A record was probably established with the next three premiers, exhibited by father, son and grandson.

Best Division one was Cover Story exhibited by father Noel Inwood.

Best Division three was Cameo Marie exhibited by son Greg Inwood.

Best Novice bloom was another Cover Story exhibited by grandson Jack Inwood.

Finally best Division four was Kiwi Magic exhibited by D & L Adams. As you can see by its freshness it was only picked three hours before judging.

A miracle has happened. I have managed to negotiate the new Daffnet format and add photos to the post. Another miracle has happened. The photo quality is of a standard suitable for posting.

As I write it is snowing at my place, after a month of dry, warm weather. At least we missed the hail last Tuesday.
