Blooming in my garden in NE NC today

This is N. romienxii subsp. albidus var. zaianicus It is a bulbocodium.  I raised it from a seed and it is now a clump.  I’m not sure if you can see the several buds that are getting ready to bloom.  Two are currently in bloom. I will have several right after the new year.  I think, but I’m not sure that the original seed came from the honorable Mr. John Gibson of England who send me several varieties of seeds that I have attempted to grow.

  1. It’s that season now Div 13… Very pretty… Let’s hope we get some cold weather so it will not be an early season again this year.

Happy New year to you and all Daff-net members!

    Happy Daffodils in 2013

One more question, has the December Journal been mailed? I haven’t received mine as of yet.

  2. Clay,

I have grown many bulbocodiums and I think that this one is one of the best, always consistent, of good yellow color and good form.  I think it is my favorite, thank you for showing it.

  3. Ceci, I have my box of December Journals, and on Friday mailed comp-copies to this issue’s authors.

Because of the double holidays, the mailing service won’t get them until Wednesday, so Jan. 3 or 4th, they should go to the post office.

I really think you’re going to believe it was worth the wait!

  4. Thank you Nancy.  I have received some very nice miniature and species daffodils from you over the years.  I appreciate what you do.  This is a nice one and the first time that I get to look at it when it blooms.  For the past five years it was in NC when I was in MD.  Now we are both in the same location.

It looks like I’m going to have to dig the clump and thin them out.  Too many there.  I think I counted another 7 buds waiting to bloom in that clump.

  5. Ceci,

It seems that I have too many bulbocodiums that bloom in the winter “Dec though Feb”

I hope my show blooms hold off.  Strangely my N. cantabricus usually blooms in Nov-Dec is still on the holding pattern.
