2013 Fortuna Show – Standard Single Cultivar Awards

Fortuna is a town about 5 hours drive north of San Francisco near the coast in Northern California. The Fortuna Garden Club puts on an annual daffodil show, and last weekend was their 38th annual daffodil show. In this first of three posts I’ll cover the American Daffodil Society awards won by exhibits with a single standard daffodil.

The Gold Ribbon is for the best standard daffodil in the show, excluding the Container and Historic Sections. The winner was ‘Firefighter’ 3Y-R exhibited by yours truly.

The Rose Ribbon is for the best standard seedling (excluding the Container Section) exhibited by its originator. The winner was 13-3-650 2Y-Y exhibied by Bob Spotts.

The White Ribbon is for the best set of three standards excluding the Historic Section. The winner was seedling 13-3-602 2YYW-WWY exhibited by Bob Spotts.

The award for Best Youth Bloom went to ‘Broomhill’ 2W-W exhibited by Clare Wilson.

The Small Grower Award is for the best bloom in the Small Grower Section. Exhibitors in this section must grow 50 or fewer different cultivars. The winning bloom was ‘Chromacolor’ 2W-P exhibited by Ruth Riddle.

The award for best bloom in the Historic Section went to ‘Cantatrice’ 1W-W (1936) exhibited by yours truly.

The Best Intermediate Ribbon is for the best bloom in the Intermediate Section or in the standard collections. The winner was seedling 13-3-64 1Y-O exhibited by Bob Spotts.
