In this third of three posts I cover all the American Daffodil Society awards for miniatures at the Fortuna show. We start the the Miniature Gold Ribbon for the best miniatures in the show excluding the Historic and Container Sections. The winner was N. cyclamineus 13Y-Y exhibited by Jon Kawaguchi.
The Miniature Rose Ribbon is for the best miniature seedling exhibited by its originator. It was Jon Kawaguchi’s 05-10-02 10Y-Y (N. bulb. var. tenuifolius x N. bulb. var. nivalis).
The Miniature White Ribbon is for the best set of three miniatures in the show. The winner was ‘Sundial’ 7Y-Y exhibited by Nancy Wilson.
The Lavender Ribbon is for the best collection of five miniatures excluding the class for 5 American-bred miniatures. Exhibitor of the winning exhibit was Jon Kawaguchi. The flowers are – ‘Zinkowski Group’ 10Y-Y, N. bulb. var. nivalis 13Y-Y, ‘Tiny Bubbles’ 12Y-Y, ‘Montongo Group’ 10Y-Y, ‘Oregon Petticoat Group’ 10Y-Y.
The Miniature Red-White-Blue Ribbon is for the best collection of 5 American-bred miniature daffodils. Exhibitor of the winning collection was Nancy Wilson. The flowers are – ‘Bumble Bee’ 1Y-Y (Mitsch), ‘Hummingbird’ 6Y-Y (Mitsch), ‘Junior Miss’ 12W-Y (Pannill), ‘Bunnie Bee’ 6Y-Y (Blom), ‘Roundita’ 1Y-Y (Low).
The Watrous Award class calls for 12 miniatures from at least 3 RHS divisions. Jon Kawaguchi exhibited the winning exhibit. The flowers are – Back: N. bulb. var. conspicuus 13Y-Y, ‘Picoblanco’ 2W-W, ‘Baby Boomer’ 7Y-Y, N. jonquilla ‘Buchanan Form’ 13Y-Y, ‘Sabrosa’ 7Y-Y, ‘Montongo Group’ 10Y-Y; Front: N. bulb. var. nivalis 13Y-Y, ‘Zinkowski Group’ 10Y-Y, ‘Hillview Triquil’ 12Y-Y, ‘Moncorvo’ 7Y-Y, Duncan 96/200 10Y-Y, Zinkowski 93-30-14 10Y-Y.
The Six Miniatures by Hybridizer is for the best set of six miniatures hybridized, originated, and exhibited by the hybridizer. Exhibitor of the winning entry was Jon Kawaguchi. The flowers are – 05-20-01 10Y-Y (N. bulb. var. conspicuus x N. bulb. var. tenuifolius), 07-8-01 10Y-Y (N. bulbocodium (6N) x ‘Cornish Cream’), 06-22-01 10Y-Y (N. bulb. var. citrinus x N. bulb. var. serotinus), 07-4-01 10Y-Y (N. bulb. ‘Long Corona’ x N. bulb. ssp. obesus), 06-25-01 10Y-Y (N. bulb. var. tenuifolius x N. bulb. var. nivalis), 08-20-01 10Y-Y (N. bulb. var. filifolius x ‘Connie Greenfield’).
The Premier Miniature Collection class calls for 24 miniature daffodils from at least 5 RHS divisions. Jon Kawaguchi exhibited the winning collection.
