Dear All,
Today it was my pleasure to judge Catforth Daffodil Show
in Lancashire.
This morning on waking I thought I would not make it as 5″s of snow
covered everything such is the late season we are now having!
Siberian winds blows across the land making it bitter and the
daffodils have not moved for a week or three.
After digging out my car I set out in good time only to find the snow
had not fallen 3 miles north of here and the roads were clear.
On arriving at Catforth, Tom and Andrew the Show Managers made me
welcome and bacon and sausage were served up with a cup of hot tea,
not to me just to me but anyone who entered the show.
The benches were ready and judging began.
Peter Walker was the main recipient of awards with his Best Bloom of
Rapture 6Y-Y and Best Exhibit of  Sealing Wax 2Y-O, Pink Silk 1W-P and Demmo 2Y-O.

Tom Alty had nice blooms of Crackington 4Y-O

and there were also good

vases of Golden Vale 1Y-Y Demmo 2Y-O and Uncle Duncan 1Y-O.

A good number of people both local and from afar visited the show and

enjoyed what is friendly and enjoyable show.

Regards to All,

Ian

    Hi Ian and All,

While you are having snow we are still in the middle of an Indian Summer – beautiful fine days and NO rain!    As our economy is mostly based on grass it looks like we are in for a very rough time we hope not as bad as Cyprus!  We are heading for Britain in 12 days time and had to choose betrween early or late planting.  We chose the former even though the ground temperature is higher than desirable.  So we are scrabbling in the dirt – we have been surprised (and pleased) to find that the soil does have some moisture in it.  Oh dear I have just been informed that you are escaping to the USA – lucky you.

We have planned our trip around the bigger shows – Wisley, Seeds, Lramington  Spa and Harrogate.  We also hope to pick up on some village shows along the Way.  We are not staying in London, choosing Woking where we can catch the train to London for the RHS Awards.

So get that snow out of the way please Ian.  We know you have magical powers so don’t disappoint us.

    Cheers,

    Peter and Lesley
