Color in Miniatures

Harold Koopowitz and Marilynn Howe outdid themselves with their seedlings exhibited at the Livermore Show this past weekend. Harold is deservedly famous for innovation and advances in form with his miniature seedlings – eg, ‘Itsy Bitsy Splitsy’ and marvelous seedlings from N. dubius. I thought I’d never see a group of seedlings better than their Livermore display of Miniatures last year, with an exquisite little rimmed trumpet. But this year they unveiled his advances in bright color! In addition to the two seedlings shown below and others similar, his collections contained vivid green seedlings from viridiflorus.  The competition bar has been raised again!

The left bloom won Best Miniature (and Best Mini Seedling). The right bloom won Best Pink Bloom in the Show. Each is of pleasing mini size, well below 50mm in diameter.
