Last Sunday I visited Gibbs Gardens just north of Atlanta, GA. Early to mid-season daffodils were blooming and the gardens were a delight. Daffodil Hill reminded me of the hills I saw in bloom in October at Lawrence, NZ, except Gibbs daffodils are all new plantings using 60 varieties for an extended bloom season and I did not have the pleasure of touring Gibbs with any daffodil friends as I did at Lawrence. I was surprised to see a miniature daffodil, ‘Tete-a-tete’, show up so well–the bright yellow swatch in this photo. Who would have thought a miniature would show up so well in such a mass planting? Look at the March 2013 Daffodil Journal on page 198 for a full-page ads for Gibbs Gardens. When I visit again, I’ll plan some extra time to explore the interesting looking little town of Ball Ground with its numerous rock shops and cafes.
