‘Mexican Hat’ 3W-R hybridized by Bob Spotts

I consider this flower to be the best I’ve ever seen with this color code. It is quite rounded and overlapped both front and back. It is a large flower that averages 112mm in diameter. The substance is thick and heavy with sublime texture. Has a great neck and pose for this Division. The color is outstanding. I believe that when officially introduced and grown by exhibitors, will win Best in Show.

Congratulations on a super flower Bob!

  1. AM I to expect a 112 mm flower from the auction bulb I planted last season?
or is 92mm more usual? I hope that I get half the color you see…

  2. From my hobbyist, but enthusiastic eye, it sure does look and sound like a winner. I hadn’t thought much about Narcissus with great necks, but I certainly now recall some in our garden with a wonderful arch that sets them apart from others. I love reading the finely tuned descriptive phases in the posts on daffnet that help me view our collection with a more critical and educated eye. Thanks, Patti

  3. Thanks for the comments on ‘Mexican Hat’!

John – Believe that you can get optimum size. See new post of today titled “Tips for Growing Large Blooms and an Experiment To Try”

Patti – Great to read your comment. I am always concerned that many of my posts are too technical in nature causing many to DELETE, skip, or “study the inside of their eyelids”. I’ll add a photo of the side view of Bob’s Superb ‘Mexican Hat’ to the original post later today. The back of the flower and the neck are as great as the front. My sincerest thanks for your kind comments!

  4. Steve and Bob Spotts,

Really love the Mexican Hat, such great form and vivid color. Have been following this cultivar for several years as you have posted previous photos. Congratulations Bob on this super flower. Wish we knew the parentage, need to remake this. Hope I can afford one when finally available.

    Best wishes everyone,

    Larry
