Hi All,

Autumn daffodils are now well under way. A couple of days ago:

My favorites for the moment are:

First Stanza x (lacticolor x elegans)
Not quite miniature I would guess.

The first paperwhite has just opened 07/1W which is a N. broussonetii hybrid. I now wonder if this is sterile because the parents aren’t closely related or because it may be a triploid.

The glisten on these flowers has been a delight.  The following new seedlings are a cross between First Stanza and the large yellow tazetta in the general picture, 09/13T which is establishing itself as reliably the earliest of the Autumn Colors. A marvellous achievement by Bill Welch because it is large and extremely early even though it doesn’t appear to have N. elegans ancestry.

 N. viridiflorus is well into flower. It and the early jonquilla were given equal conditions this year. In response to watering the jonquilla out grow viridiflorus and are now very mature plants. No sign yet of buds but it does confirm my impression that autumn jonquilla are very possible. Hybrids between the two have intermediate growth and also are not yet showing buds. Interestingly, N. dubius is also well developed.
