It has been very warm and windy here today, and most everything is opening, giving windblown flowers not at their best. A light overnight rain would be welcome. I was picking a few things for the Cleveland show this coming Saturday, and came across this flower in the seedling bed. The flower is not as recorded, as it should have been a jonquil hybrid, so a stray seed gave this flower. I strongly suspect the weather has caused this coloration, but both blooms from the bulb have the same coloration. So, how would you color code this one? 11a W-P-Y-G? :-)
that’s very pretty
i have one kind of like it.
Mary Lou,
I really like it too. Not for what it is exactly but for the potential that it represents! Different can be a really good thing. Please don’t discard this!!! It is a very cool thing.
How about a color code of 11aW-GWP/Y. Sure to cause gnashing of teeth!
Steve
Hi Mary Lou,
I wonder if it consistent and whether it matures to 11aW-WWP? Different exposures to the sun can cause a flower to develop at different rates as I’m sure you would know.
I agree with Steve. If this is a step toward splits of alternating colors it is a valuable flower. If so I want one and I want to breed from it an 11aW-W//P. If this use of symbols makes sense then yours is approximately 11aW-WWP//WPY. Seems to me you are set to cause trouble. I hope Ben and Nancy are ready for this kind of chaos.
here one of mine with mix colors.
it looked like this when it just open
and within a few days.
it later change to a more solid color.
