ADS member from the UK, Ian Tyler, has had a standing invitation to visit with me after an ADS Convention for many years. Ian wanted to be immersed in “Southern culture” and I told him I could accommodate that wish. It finally worked out, and Ian came home with me after the ADS Convention in Columbus, OH. Some people bring home a puppy, I bring home an Englishman. Three of my lady friends, and I, took Ian on an adventurous journey to St George Island and Apalachicola, FL. We called our excursion, Four Wild Women and an Englishman. Ian will never be the same. He went home to England on 20 APR, sunburned and bug bitten. The no see ums and mosquitoes loved him! He saw bald eagles. He turned over in a kayak in Apalachicola Bay. He ate his first raw oyster and learned how to shuck oysters. We took him on a boat ride up the Apalachicola River to show him flora and fauna. I am working on preparing a “travelogue” of Ian’s visit to the Florida Forgotten Coast, and will get it posted to an online photo sharing resource as soon as my time allows. I’ll let all Ian’s daffy friends know when and where to see more.

I was VERY upset that we’d not had ANY installments of 4 Wild Women and a Mad Englishman … and now, Ian’s portrait will not enlarge …. what IS a lady to do??!!

I agree Darrin, very disappointing, would have loved to be a fly on the wall during that trip!!! Bet some Southern ladies laughed until they cried.
Nancy T has come to my IT rescue and reinserted the image of Ian, studying up. You should now be able to click on it and it will enlarge. I had planned to send periodic posts to Nancy T, while on our adventure with Ian, but we NEVER had wifi anywhere we were or went. I think you could accurately say that we were “off the grid”. Stay tuned for the announcement of when I have the travelogue of Ian’s “immersion” in Southern culture… ready for viewing on a photo sharing resource.
Curiosity got the best of me. I could not read the title so I saved the photo and zoomed in on it. The book title is “The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook” with subtitles of “How to: Escape from Quicksand, Wrestle an Alligator, Break Down a Door, Land a Plane.” I can’t wait to hear and see more of this great adventure!
Indeed, I also was disappointed not to receive periodic posts! Becky, Darrin, Phyllis and I were on the same tour bus with Jaydee. In classic Jaydee style, complete with her engaging Georgia drawl, she regaled the bus with profiles and antics of the lady friends and descriptions of the planned adventures for the Englishman. One such was the Air Kiss. Several of us Yankees, not familiar with the practice, asked for enlightenment. Darrin and Jaydee commenced to play-act two southern ladies, meeting, greeting and making polite conversation (I’m sure there’s a southern expressionr for the exchange) complete with air kisses at beginning and end. They had the bus in near hysterics; whooping, gasping, sides aching and eyes streaming with laughter. Stellar performances both. I anxiously await the travelogue of text and pictures. I expect it will be most entertaining with the Englishman out of his element but actually still in it, the center of attention, surrounded by ladies. We do love you Ian!
