The warm , settled weather is continuing in the Waikato , as it is over most of the North Island for the last week .The daffs are moving at a fast pace and after a slow start ,we now have a good range of flowers .Graham Phillips has been a leader in breeding good quality early yellow trumpets and is now also getting very good colour in some impressive early redcups .
Fortitude – x – Sobig has given a range of nice flowers on good stems , with very acceptable form.This seedling ; I – 111 – 1 has a bold and imposing look .
Graham won Champion Bloom at a recent North Island National with 2 Y – O ‘ Tripapon ‘ from the cross Scarlet Cord – x – Banker , which has also given some good early redups . Graham recommends using Banker for very smooth seedlings , but they need a strong colour flower if the wish is for bright reds .
