Edgedin Gold & Picotee Types

The Miniature picotee flower of ‘Edgedin Gold’ came from a large number of ‘Baby Moon’ seed open pollinated. The seed was planted in 1989. I’ve never been pleased with the consistency of the picotee edge with the clone selected for naming. I have planted seed from ‘Edgedin Gold’ x O. P. Some of those are below. The open pollinated seed varies widely in terms of the picotee coloring. The V07-80-4 is from a carefully controlled selfing of six flowers. I mean carefully controlled due to: de-anthering early, popping open of immature buds, multiple pollen applications, protection with gauze netting, et.. The selfing (really line breeding) gave somewhat better form and deeper color and contrast. Line breeding seems to have intensified color and “set” attributes.
