Book For Southern Gardeners

My first cousin Betty Montgomery, a life member of the ADS and mentored by my mother Frances Armstrong, has written a beautiful book titled “A Four-Season Southern Garden”. Betty shares her gardening experience from forty years of love and labor in both of her zone 7 gardens in the Carolinas and gives the reader tips and information on the most successful methods she has found for creating healthy and colorful gardens. The book is illustrated with lovely pictures by photographer Dick Carr. It is a must buy for southern gardeners.

It is available at Amazon.com and it’s not too late for it to arrive before Christmas.

  1. Thanks, Rod. I went to Amazon.com and ordered the book before answering. If the author was mentored by your mother Frances, that’s all I needed to know. Alas, the shifting of these zone maps now has us in upper zone 8–seems as if my daffodils and everything else grew better when they believed the zone line ran straight through the middle of our garden.

  2. Rod, you did not exaggerate! I ordered Betty Montgomery’s book from Amazon.com before I posted the last reply, and it came yesterday. I had a bit of open space in my morning, and I just sat down to look through it, look at all the pages and the pictures. It is wonderful!  Very helpful, practical plain advice, well written, and those wonderful pictures. She grows well so many things I wish I could only grow “tolerably.” It’s a given–Zone 7 is better than Zone 8.
