Newly Named and Registered Poetaz Daffodil
My seedling number V98-237-6 has now been Registered and named ‘Legendary’. A poetaz is a hybrid between a tazetta type and a poeticus type (or the reverse). A few popular and available flowers of this type are ‘Geranium’, ‘Martha Washington’, and ‘Martinette’. Almost all Poetaz have an intense, fantastic, sweet fragrance and so does this Selection. ‘Legendary’ usually has three or four HUGE flowers on the main stems. Stems are tall and strong. Visually, ‘Legendary’ looks like three Standard size Div. 3 Y-R’s sitting on a single stem. Each flower can measure 105mm (a little over 4″!!!) in diameter. Most unusually, ‘Legendary’ has already gone off to Holland for evaluation due to its high commercial potential.

Steve,
A very nice and interesting cross,You know iI is tetraploid with three chromosome sets of garden daffodils and one of N. tazetta. I think most seedlings of such a cross don’t have so many flowers per stem. The resistance to frost should be good because of the big part of garden daffodil chromosomes. You should look at the pollen. Many tetraploids with one different chromosome set have some fertility.

Great. There is so little breeding of poetaz these days. Congrats.
