2014 Georgia Daffodil Society Show Results

Hello All!

The GDS show was held at the Chattahoochee Nature Center Yesterday. This is one of most beautiful areas I’ve known in a local nature center. If you haven’t experienced this nature center, you certainly SHOULD!.

I couldn’t find all of my accessories in a canvas bag that I store several things that I need for each show. In that bag was my black velvet cloth for my usual background, so I needed to use a blue one.

Even with the ugly winter, all the members were able to bring a nice group of flowers together. The Winners photos are attached here. I missed one award, which was the Bozievich. It WAS awarded, but I didn’t get the winners name.

  1. Looks like I didn’t quote the exhibitors name for the Standard White Ribbon. The exhibitor was Janet Loyd.

  2. The White ribbon winner in the Georgia (US) Daffodil Show was ‘Spring Convention’. With the “polar vortex” dropping in on the southern U.S. so many times this year, it was great to see some good oranges and reds and a few pinks in the Georgia show. Carry on, spring!  I only have yellow and white showing so far here in middle Tennessee, though there are a lot more cultivars in bloom than there were before I spent a few days in Georgia.

  3. I was on the panel that selected the White Ribbon winner.  It was actually ‘Spring Coronation’.  And the pink was VERY intense.  Got my attention right away.  And, Becky, is right.  The oranges and reds were brilliant.  Not a good year for quantity, but a good year for color at the Georgia show.

On the other hand, I had nothing in the show.  My earliest flowers were just starting to open.  Perhaps I’ll have a better show in Knoxville this weekend……I hope.

  4. Greg,

There is also a daffodil show on March 22 in Barco, NC.  You are most invited to attend. :-)

    Clay

  5. Clay,

Thanks for the invitation.  I’m gonna have to get up there one of these days, but it’s quite a drive.

  6. Tom:

The blue background really makes the flowers pop! Great.

  7. Thanks for the correction, Greg.  I was zooming in on my photo of the show winners to get the name.  Hmm, maybe I have some Spring Convention on my mind!  ;->  See you in Little Rock in two weeks!  You and others are also welcome to join us here at the Middle Tennessee Daffodil Show March 22-23!

  8. Becky, I would love to come to Nashville, but it’s not in the cards this year.  I might try and persuade one of my Atlanta friends to take a couple of blooms for me.  It was so good to see you in Atlanta.  Little Rock will be a blast!
