Miniature 5Y-W – Blom 227-16

Visited friend Walter Blom earlier in the week and saw this stunner in his garden. In his seedling beds really. It is recorded as 227-16 which is a cross of: N. rupicola (pigmy form) x N. triandrus subsp. triandrus var. loiseleurii (syn. N. t capax). A sort of a N. x rupidulus style or type even though it was made with N. t. capax and not N. triandrus subsp. pallidulus as is called for in N. x rupidulus. The seedlings of Walter’s 227-16 have the same “look and feel” as N. x rupidulus but smaller and cleanly reversed with two or three flowers per stem.

It was somewhat fragrant which is weird as neither parent is notable for fragrance at all. The color was remarkable as the reverse is a crisp, clean white. The corona was perfectly and symmetrically  scalloped at the rim. Nice width to the segments and I measured the flower at 38mm in diameter with the scape 5.5″ tall. Two and three flowers were average per stem.

An exceptional and striking new Miniature creation!
