Spring Thaw rescued

I was looking through the beds now that Daffodil season has arrived in Minnesota.     Some time ago about 5 years or so John Reed had a space of his property cleared to put seedlings in that had some cultivars in it.  John didn’t want to lose one of them, but after looking carefully through the rows he decided his plant had died out.  Jason Delaney flagged a cultivar in the area as Teal and it was dug the rest of the bulbs going into the mix.  Now years later only one bulb is Teal and the bulbs around it have finally bloomed.  This is the result:  DSC00543  The bloom just opened and is smooth very broad and is a definite division two.  It has never bloomed before here and the bulbs will be dug and half returned to John.  This is Spring thaw and with careful observation one can see the parents Broomhill and Achnasheen in it.  This one needs water to grow and flourish.  The flowers bloom above the foliage a must in my opinion.  One of the nicer early whites.

  1. Accept it–the plants are in charge.

They just humor us by letting us think we make choices about their future.

  2. A lovely white indeed, with tons of substance.

  3. Jason, I just noticed there are no photos of Spring Thaw on Daffseek, so this one should be posted. It is a beauty!

  4. Lovely flower.  I can definitely see Broomhill in it – a reliable and favourite 2WW with me.  I’d be very proud to grow Spring Thaw!  Thanks for posting it.
