  1. Folks,

I hope that all of you who read this short message, will try to be in Memphis for the Fall Board Meeting.  With the exception of no daffodil show, the meeting seems to me to be like a “mini” ADS Convention!  I can’t wait to be there!!  Having missed the entire US daffodil season and shows, I am “starved” for the company of daffodil people, etc.

  2. Ted, I know how you feel starved for daffodil friends.  Here in Gloucester Virginia we now have NO SHOW as the CLUB whodid  put it on has no interest in daffodils nor in gardening, so therefore, in May they voted not to continue it.  It still makes me sad after 67 years of the show that new comers (people not native to our community) have decided we are no longer a daffodil group please remember that they live in the region that calls its self the Daffodil Capital of America.

  3. Dear Friends. It is sad to hear about the future for shows by our Daffodil fiends in Gloucester. There is no longer interest in daffodil and gardening. This a problem we all have. You can say;this the end or let us try other idea,s. From Brian Duncan I heard that they work together with Alpine people for special events. In the UK we start last spring;  A SPRING FESTIVAL at Rosemoor Garden,(one of the RHS gardens in SW England)  The show was annouced as a SPRING SHOW .  A show of Rhododendron and Camelia together with Daffodils and Hyacinths. As Bulbcommittee we had some displays for education and gave also some lectures. Normally they had  200/300 visitors and now nearly 2000 . It was a great success!!!  My experience with Spring Garden Keukenhof is the same, After a cold, wet winter, People wants to see and smell the Spring what also means the Summer is coming up. Donot forget the Daffodil is the HERALD of the Spring. I wish everybody success too. With a flowergreeting from Holland.   Jan Pennings

  4. Jan,

We have been doing this in Christchurch for a number of years. It has been a wonderful success with both visual and intellectual stimulation.

  5. Ceci’s comment about no more daffodil shows in Gloucester is indeed disappointing; however, I guess it reflects that the generation of today has little such interest.  Central Mississippi Daffodil Society (CMDS) did not have a 2014 show, mainly because I was in London with the Mississippi College London Semester  Program for three months.  Our active CMDS members are too few; so my absence was just the “daffodil,” i.e. that broke the camel’s back.  That being said, CMDS will back in 2015, hosting the ADS Southern Region Daffodil Show on the Mississippi College campus.  My passion for daffodils is partially satiated by my daffodil garden; however, that is not enough to “fill” me as only daffodil shows and fraternizing with daffodil friends each spring can do!

  6. Ted, if Harold’s season is like it was in  2007or 2008 in Nashville, you will think you are at a daffodil show, an autumn show of mostly miniatures. You just can’t win awards!
