A Beauty from Kevin Kerr

As many of you know, our dear friend Kevin Kerr has been battling a brain tumour for over 4 years now.  He made his last crosses in 2008.  Some of these have flowered this year in the boxes where the seed was planted.  I am sure Kevin  would be happy to share these photos of this outstanding first flower that he bred from one of his seedling crossed with a seedling of John Hunter’s.  This is KK 08 01B.  We saw this flower the other day not long after it had opened – it has outstanding colour – I think the best I have ever seen on a y-p trumpet.  It is a real credit to you, Kevin.   This is the second good one to flower from the cross, and is definitely a trumpet.  The first one was lovely too, it was thought to have measured large cup.   I love the halo which has developed more since we saw the flower on Monday.

  1. Hi Denise,

Please pass on our greetings to Kevin. He is a wonderful man.

This flower looks superb. I hope there is a plan in place to ensure that cultivars such as this don’t get lost.

  2. Great looking bloom.  Makes me wonder who will get my babies once I give up the ghost.  I bloomed my 1st two years ago, Hope I still have another 20 years of good health and lots of new varieties.

  3. I’ve never been a fan of yellow pinks because of the lack of colour in most, but this seedling has changed that.

Congrats Kevin on a beautiful seedling

  4. This is a beautiful bloom.  Thanks so much for sharing the photo, Denise.  It does Kevin proud.  I hope he’s up to enjoying his blooms this upcoming season.  All the best to him.

  5. Thank you to everyone  for the kind words on Kevin’s behalf.  He still looks at Daffnet and was very pleased to see his “baby” on here.
