I,m still sorting the last of the daff photos from the 2014 season and from a few emails sent by Graham Phillips , have managed a report on what is probably the first show for the season .The strong Northern Daffodil Club has for the last few seasons had an EARLY Early Table Show .Held on Monday 14 July , little staging needed for about 50 flowers benched , it,s just a good fun get together to welcome spring .As the long group photo shows , the backs of some fine tazettas – Tahi and Toru , – a good tribute to Max Hamilton .Judging the blooms are , l – r , Malcolm Lind , Clive Denton , Lisa Watkins and Graeme Miller.
The daffs were not as plentiful as the tazettas , but a winner always emerges. Graham Phillips has a small stock of the John Hunter raised Canisp 2 W – W seedling JAH 3 – 93 D . This is a very consistent , big , clean white that would hold it,s own with the best of the mid season flowers .The photo of Grahams winner on the bench is from Malcolm Lind.
Graham sent me two photos of it , taken before the show . Noting the show date , mid July , probably equivalent of a mid January show in the Northern hemisphere ; very early and a great appetizer for the months ahead .
