Winter Daffodil in Ohio

Yuletide, img , crop  Winter in Ohio is colder than normal (though not as bad as in other places), and it makes it hard to keep my unheated garage above freezing.   ‘Yuletide’ was trying to bloom, with color beginning to show, but the cold finally got to it and the stem bent over.  So I brought it inside, on my kitchen counter, where it straightened up, as blooms do outside after cold weather.

Last year there were two blooms, but last winter was really cold (zero and sub-zero) for a long time, and lots of the pots were frozen and bulbs lost.  So I’m glad to have even the one bloom.

I was glad to see Bob’s photos of Tequila Sunrise Group, as in the fall of 2013 Harold kindly gave me about 10 bulbs.  There were nice buds last year–and all froze.  This year the pot has only foliage, so I’m hoping that next year I’ll have bloom.  Tonight the temperature will be around zero, so I guess I’ll keep the door to my kitchen open overnight and hope that keeps the garage above freezing.
