The daffodil season has started here absurdly early. This new seedling is 98_22T x (Gold Stanza x First Stanza). These parents are all pictured in my latest online catalog (and there are crosses like it available as seed).
It’s been a mild wet summer here and one or two tazettas have not died down at all. These seedlings were given slightly special treatment in that I kept them watered and provided some shade for a while, but even so this particular one is much earlier than everything else. By comparison, one that didn’t die down has not yet produced buds.
In my experience elegans responds to a cool change and water whereas tazettas generally are not so fussy and can respond just to water with the result that they can sometimes flower earlier than elegans even though they are usually later. This seedling looks like it may combine both characteristics.
