I had a request from The British Society regarding the cultivars on their list. They want to know if anyone is growing them.

They have found someone growing all but the following:

Charles Warren
Drop O’Gold
Skelmersdale Gold
Treble Chance
Yellow Pet

If you are growing any of these or know someone who does please let me know. If they are no longer grown then ADS Miniature Committee should also considering delisting them.

Thank you,

    Hi Naomi,

I understand the British and ADS wish to remove cultivars from their lists. We have discussed doing the same in New Zealand. A problem arises when we join with the Alpine Garden Society and some of their members are still growing the older cultivars. Unlikely to ever be seen at a NZNDS show yet still actively grown in this country. A dilemma we may never solve.

    Hi Naomi

I grow ‘Treble Chance’ here in the UK, but in a cold greenhouse it flowers too early for any Daffodil Society or affiliated society shows. Of the others ‘Skelmersdale Gold’ has been seen around in the past few years, but the others I suspect have long disappeared from the UK scene.

    Hi Naomi

Further to my comment about ‘Treble Chance’, Pottertons who originally named and introduced it still offer it for sale in the UK, see following link

I have grown Charles Warren since 1998. I acquired stock from Helen Link. On DaffSeek the photo by Hube Bourne is a good but rare example of Charles Warren,  The Heath photos are more the reality,  I have people who like Charles Warren for garden and for floral arrangements,

    Hi Naomi,

I still grow Rupert and I am sure that there must be others in New Zealand growing it.

    Regards Robin

Isn’t this worldwide Daffnet a wonderful thing! Literally in a matter of a few days, Naomi can check out a question from the British Isles and compare against the lists of growers in other countries. I can well remember, when Delia Bankhead undertook such a verification project a couple of decades ago, how long and laboriously she worked on corresponding with the miniatures growers she knew.
    Progres is good!
