Big Success in Sheboygan

The show held in Sheboygan yesterday, put together by Ray Rogers and his local garden club, was a great first effort which will certainly grow in participation and reputation.

Ray will post a report later, but for now I would like to congratulate him and the locals there for putting on a fine show, both with respect to the arrangements (nice lunch for the judges) and for the flowers in that very pleasant environmental center.

The Midwest Daffodil Society, which helped out with the properties and modest material support, was represented by Nancy Pilipuf, Katherine Robinson, Geri Gilbert, and George Dorner, all of whom were judges. Rose Finnegan made the just over two hour drive to view the show and she took some photos, too. Kathy Julius and Mike Berrigan drove down from Minneapolis to enter and judge, and Mike offered a Judges Refresher after lunch which was appreciated for its content and for the option for those who needed it.

The Gold and Rose Ribbons were won by one of Mike’s seedlings. He had 11 in the show, I think, and some in the basement which time didn’t allow. He took a planned Quinn and entered two collections of five instead, both of which were terrific and one of which was a big winner.

The enthusiasm of the locals was exciting and several were represented on the Awards Table. This will be a nice ongoing event, the first new show in a while.

The judges couldn’t agree on just what the Best Unnamed Standard was. Can you help? (Ray added this local award for the newbies at their first experience of a show.)

Look for more on this new show here soon.
