Bulbocodium

P1000948

Hi Everyone.

I thought that daffnetters might be interested in this flower. Apologies for the poor photograph.

The flower is not of any great significance but the fact that it flowered 15 months after the seed was sown is. My records show that this seed was sown on March 4th 2014. It was bred from Romieuxii x  seedling, there was another flower in the pot but a slug decided that it liked it more than me. I was amazed that it flowered so soon, have any others experienced similar early flowering?

Regards

Robin

  1. Hi Robin,

Christiaan, in South Africa, reported very similar results.  See his post from June 11, 2015.

  2. Hi Robin,
I have had the same experience once and I have had them bloom in paper bags as well.  It might be a project for a breeder to transfer the characteristic to larger flowers.  Once I grew N. alpestris from seed that was very old, it took 12 years to bloom!  Exciting things, thank you for sharing.
