For me a beautiful pedigree is one that transfers good characteristics to surprising places. In this case it is pink from the world class 2Y-R Redlands Too.
Turakina is a David Bell 1W-Y (introduced in 1984, not West and Fell 1941) that can show a blush of pink(?) in the trumpet. Crossed with a Fred Silcock 1Y-YYP gave 04_04 1Y-YYP
Florence Joy x (Misty Glen x Decoy) gave 05_21, 2W-WWP.
These two crossed, 04_04 x 05_21, gave 10_124.
Forte, a Jackson 2W-P, crossed with Redlands Too 2Y-R gave 02_09.
Florence Joy x 02_09 gave 10_112.
These two 2010 seedlings crossed, 10_124 x 10_112, has given the newest seedling in the paddock 15_04, a nice very early season near trumpet with a pink rim. What better way could there be to spend 20 years?
Hi Lawrence,
Some very nice seedlings with intriguing pedigrees. I always liked Turakina and thought that with its unusual coloured trumpet and good form would make a good breeding flower. It is a pity that it no longer seems to be available in New Zealand.
Cheers Robin
What better way indeed, Lawrence, to spend 20 years. :-) Beautiful seedlings.
