Hi Folks,
Today I invited a couple of friends to help me dig some mixed bulbs. One retired 75 year old turned up with a fork. I explained that I would be ploughing the patch and his fork would not be needed. His reply was “Oh well I will still take it and then I’ve got something to lean on.’ My quirky response was to laugh at his comment. Guess what his pre retirement employment was.

Makes sense, David! I learned at about that age that my grandpa’s sharpshooter shovel was invaluable when I was working within a bed, having to get up in it rather than reaching from the sides.
You can dig, and/or you can plunge it into the ground and it’s a firm support.
And, you didn’t tell us what his pre=retirement employment was.

If NZ is like the USA he was/is probably a government worker; like our people who fix roads etc it takes one to work and 6 to stand around while they watch him.
Govt worker!!!! So what was his pre employment?
Yep, David’s pre retirement employer was the Christchurch City Council. He didn’t realize how his innocent comment was so pertinent.
