About five years ago, someone offered some OPS bulbocodium seeds to a good home. I was the recipient of some. I got bloom this spring. For 40+ years, I have experienced limited success in getting daffodil seeds to germinate and stay with me. I’m sure it is me! I suffer from too many interests and drains on my time. The seeds of crosses and their progeny have not received enough TLC. So such a success — to see a bloom — is a real boost. It doesn’t take a lot to thrill me! I just want to thank the person that sent me the seeds. Was it you?

This is just what you need to hear. Bulbocodiums are killed with kindness. They thrive on neglect. They flower when they are stressed because if the bulbs think they are going to die they need seeds to ensure the survival of the species.

I might have been the guilty party that send you the bulbocodium seeds. For years I advertised “for free” seeds of both bulbocodiums and jonquills until no one asked for them anymore. Besides it cost money to mail things. Anyway I stopped sending out seed a couple of years ago and now just dead head as bulbocodium and jonqilla love to set seed whether you help them or not.
By the way the little seedling you have of mine 14-08 5Y-Y NTT X N. cordubensis won the mini rose ribbon yesterday at the Garden Club of Virginia daffodil show in Hampton, VA. It’s a good one that lasts a long time in the garden.
