Daffodil Weather

Weather Report,

In Northeast North Carolina, March was too warm and set all my daffodils blooming too early. . . Actually it confused the daffodils as I had some of my late daffodils blooming in early March, and on 14 April my Rapture 6Y-Y started blooming and they are usually very early. Regardless, by the end of March 90 percent of my daffodil were bloomed and destroyed by the wind.

It’s been raining and stormy here in NE NC for most of this time.  On the weekend of April 2-3 the winds were over 45 miles an hours and blew all my daffodils down on the ground – with the help of a very light rain.  Today it is still very windy with gusts up to 35 MPH according to Fox 43 news on WAVY 10.

As a Master Gardener Volunteer we just had our spring Home, Flower and Garden show where our NE NC Daffodil Society had an Daffodil Educationa Booth set up, and the wind was blowing everything around.  You know it’s bad when all the ladies attending come into the building brushing their hair, and looking for the ladies room so that they can get themselves organized before they go into the public areas.Fran at currituck hfg show

I’ve about had all the wind I need and I vote that it go back to normal for the remainder of April.
