Unreduced ABC – Pollen from ABC – Narcissus Crosses

The capital letters indicate different chromosome sets. One example for such a cross is N. cantabricus x Emerald Sea. The seedlings are composed of one chromosome set of Sea Dream (N), one of N. viridiflorus (V), and one of N. cantabricus (C). About 50 % of the seedlings are fertile with unreduced NVC – pollen. The plant in the two pictures has about 10 % fertility.

Another example are seedlings from N. triandrus pallidulus x Emerald Sea. The plants are composed of one chromosome set of Sea Dream (N), one of N. viridiflorus (V), and one of N. triandrus pallidulus (Tr). About 5 % of the seedlings generate unreduced NVTr – pollen. The plant in the picture flowered for the first time in autumn 2015 and has also about 10% fertile pollen.

Many crosses with these pollen for example with standard daffodils or N. cyclamineus may be possible.

  1. Theo, thank you for posting the results of these interesting crosses.  I especially like the little one from N. triandrus pallidulus x Emerald Sea.
